Chicken Cure-All Soup: A Bowl of Comfort for Sick Days and Slow Evenings

Chicken

There’s nothing like a hot bowl of nourishing chicken soup on a chilly evening—or when you’re feeling a little under the weather. Fresh veggies, rich broth, simple spices… it’s humble, comforting, and deeply nourishing in a way only homemade food can be.

Lately, it feels like sickness has been making its way through our community—kids with sniffles, friends battling fevers, families trying to rest and recover. Whenever that happens, my mind goes straight to a pot of soup simmering on the stove.

This is our chicken cure-all soup—the kind you make when someone you love needs a little extra care.

Thank you to our family friend Celia who inspired this soup!

Why Whole Chicken Soup Feels So Healing

When we make soup, we always start with a whole chicken from our farm. Using the whole bird—bones, skin, and all—creates a broth that’s rich in minerals, collagen, and flavor. It’s the kind of broth that feels like it’s warming you from the inside out.

There’s something grounding about it, too. You’re using the whole animal, honoring the life that provided this nourishment, and turning it into multiple meals for your family.

When our kids are sick, I love that I can ladle out a bowl of soup and know exactly where the meat came from - a chicken raised on pasture the way God intended, giving us meat that is deeply nourishing and nutrient dense.

A Soup for Your Family—or Someone Else’s

This is the kind of soup you make for:

  • A friend who just had a baby

  • A neighbor who’s battling the flu

  • A family who could use an easy, nourishing meal

  • Or simply your own household on a cozy evening

A pot of chicken soup is more than food. It’s a quiet way of saying, “I care about you.”

More Than a Recipe—A Rhythm of Care

Soup days have a rhythm to them. The gentle simmer on the stove. The cozy smell filling the kitchen. The quiet knowing that something nourishing is being created.

In a world that often feels rushed and complicated, a pot of soup is a reminder that care doesn’t have to be fancy. It can be as simple as a whole chicken, some vegetables, and a few hours of gentle simmering.

If you have a whole chicken from our farm tucked in your freezer, this is your sign to pull it out. Make a pot of soup for your family—or double the batch and share it with someone who could use a little comfort this week.

And if you don’t have one on hand, we’d love to provide one for your kitchen. 💛

We hope this chicken soup warms your heart like it does ours.

Let us know if you give this a try!

  1. I had this soup last year! It really did the trick! I was very sick and I drank it all day, piping hot, and had a wonderful sleep afterwards! What I did ( if you don’t mind me sharing this ), I added a peeled, cut up parsnip, while it was cooking. I learned this from a friend I knew, who owned a Jewish Deli. The spicy taste and great smell of chicken soup cooking, doubles with this tiny addition. Try it. And Thank you for all the great recipes, Rachel!
