Sausage Cheddar balls

Pork, Recipe

I've been tweaking my sausage ball recipe for a while now and have made these for parties, appetizer night, girls get-togethers and most recently to freeze for and easy breakfast side once baby girl is here.

The key for me is getting your sausage to room temperature first and using melted butter. It makes the balls come together a lot easier!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. hot country/breakfast sausage

  • 1 lb. sharp cheddar cheese block, shredded

  • 2 cups all purpose unbleached flour

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • half a stick of butter, melted

This recipe makes 30-40 sausage balls.

Cooking Steps

  1. Let your sausage come to room temperature for 30 minutes to an hour.

  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and prep two large baking sheets with parchment paper.

  3. Shred your cheese and set aside.

  4. In a large bowl, which together the flour, baking powder and salt.

  5. Add the sausage along with the melted butter to the bowl.

  6. Using your hands, mix until combined.

  7. Add the shredded cheese and mix well until all ingredients are combined well.

  8. Roll into 30-40 walnut-sized balls and place on baking sheets.

  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and sausage is cooked to 165 degrees.

  10. Remove from oven and enjoy warm!
